The updated-for-2012 Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel had its Australian launch last week.

With a new 2.2 litre diesel engine, the Jaguar XF model now features an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and stop/start technology.

The most fuel-efficient Jaguar to date also comes with a price update, providing a chance for the brand to "target a new wave of Jaguar buyers that in the past may have considered the exclusive marque out of reach from a financial perspective," according to car review website CarAdvice.

Boasting a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.4L per 100km, the new Jaguar XF diesel model features a water-cooled turbocharger, low-friction pistons, a new crankshaft and new injectors.

A new exterior - including a larger grille, modified headlights and a new bumper design - also feature in the revised model. The interior includes restyled steering wheel and instrument panels, along with updated seats.

The Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel includes Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming, Jaguar Smart Key System with keyless start, rain-sensing wipers and LED daytime running lamps as standard.

The Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel Luxury is expected to be available from next month, and priced at $78,900 (excluding on-road costs).
